About Us
PEI Energy Systems, owned by Enwave out of Toronto and operates one of Canada's largest hot water district heating systems in Charlottetown. The business has been in operation since 1983 and today employs over 35 full and part-time staff.
PEI Energy Systems supplies over 145 buildings with thermal energy through an 18 KM hot water distribution system and one major steam customer (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) through a 1 KM high pressure steam main. The system's peak thermal load of over 40 MW is supplied using a combination of municipal waste, wood chips and oil as its fuel sources.
Oil is used only for peaking and backup.
