About our speaker:
Donna MacEwen, QC Partner, McInnes Cooper
Donna is a Partner in our Charlottetown office and practices in the areas of intellectual property and insurance litigation. She has recently been selected by her peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in Canada for her practice in intellectual property law and is ranked in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory.
Donna has in-depth experience in trademark (TM) prosecution and portfolio management in Canada. She has been a registered Canadian trademark agent since 1991. Donna is an experienced intellectual property litigator, having conducted trademark expungement, opposition and infringement proceedings. Donna has appeared before the Trademarks Opposition Board and the Federal Court (Trial and Appeal Divisions) concerning trademark matters. She negotiates and prepares intellectual property agreements for the protection and commercialization of clients’ intellectual property rights. Donna is the past Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property/Information Technology Group.
Donna also has extensive insurance experience. She counsels insurers on issues involving insurance coverage and defense of claims, including automobile, property and commercial risks. In addition, Donna has represented insurers before all levels of courts in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick and participated in numerous mediations, both as counsel and as a mediator, and other alternative dispute resolutions proceedings.
