With Brent Homan, Director General, Investigations
Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
Small businesses may not be aware of their obligations under Canada's federal private sector privacy law or the key steps to protecting the privacy of customers. This puts them at risk of non-compliance and data breaches.
Consumers are increasingly concerned with how businesses are safeguarding their information. Research shows Canadians are less likely now to believe that businesses are taking their privacy obligations seriously than they were nine years ago.
Brent Homan has seen firsthand how privacy complaints can seriously impact a small business. He will share some lessons he learned from investigations, and offer practical advice that small businesses can put to use right away.
Through this session you will gain a better understanding of what is expected under federal privacy legislation; how to avoid costly and reputation-damaging privacy breaches; the impact of antispam legislation and some things to look out for when conducting e-marketing.
