As a young professional on PEI, have you ever thought about whether you should establish a ‘personal brand’, and why? Have you had questions like:
- Is a personal brand even important for my line of work? Why?
- How do I even decide what my own ‘brand’ is?
- How do I stay authentic AND professional at the same time?
- How do I get started and what are the opportunities available to me…and pitfalls I can avoid?
Not to worry - you are definitely not alone!
The BizUnder40 Committee is excited to welcome three young Islanders who’ve been down this same path to answer these questions, and more. We invite you to come by the Start-Up Zone on Thursday, October 13th, learn a few things and get motivated to build and grow your own brand on PEI.

Vanessa Smith is the Marketing Manager for the Murphy Hospitality Group where she oversees the strategic direction of all things creative and social. Vanessa is also the co-chair of the Biz Under 40 Committee with the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce and sits on the board for Fusion Charlottetown. Vanessa believes that investing in Charlottetown's youth is the key to success for her generation.
Panelists:
Laura Woodworth is the co-host of the Morning Hot Tub on The New Hot 1055. Originally from Newfoundland, she moved to PEI in 2010 to complete a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition from UPEI before starting a career in media in St. John's, Newfoundland in 2012. She has worked in morning radio for nearly 5 years, and in that time has also worked as a TV news and entertainment reporter for a Newfoundland based TV station (NTV) and a radio and television copywriter.
Al Douglas is Charlottetown’s unofficial ambassador of radness. Outside of his position with the Murphy Hospitality Group/PEI Brewing Company, you’ll find Al programming music on stages around the city, enjoying local eats, volunteering for a good cause, keeping the Island connected through his irreverent social media empire, or just wandering the beautiful Island with his camera, seeking his next great shot.
Kirstin Lund - In 1996, after one year of practicing law, Kirstin opened a mediation firm and began providing services as a mediator, facilitator, and conflict resolution and collaboration trainer. She has collaborated in the development and delivery of numerous transformational learning programs through her own companies and at the University of Prince Edward Island. Kirstin is the co-owner, along with Karolyn Godfrey, of Winding Path Inc., which offers leadership skills building, strategic and organizational planning, and team effectiveness training.
